As children grow, they need calcium and other nutrients to build strong bones and a healthy body .
The best way to get enough calcium is by eating and drinking foods that naturally contain calcium
Sources of calcium in foods include:
1. Low fat milk , yogurt, and other dairy and soy beverages
2. Flavoured milk such as chocolate and strawberries have as much as calcium than plain. Keep in mind have added sugar and more calories
3. Dark green leafy such as kale , turnip are low in calories and high in calcium,
4. Broccoli, tofu, chickpeas, lentils, split peas and fish with bones such as canned salmon and sardines
5. Calcium fortified juices but 1/2 -1 cup daily
6. Calcium- fortified cereals
7. Add in diet ragi, sesame seeds, makhana ,almonds, cheese and yogurt.
Adding some calcium rich rich foods may help in taking sufficient amount of calcium in the diet through foods like- Makhana, Ragi, Dairy products, eggs etc.
