Ragi in thyroid
Can I consume ragi if I have thyroid? I have heard that it's difficult to digest for thyroid people. Currently am taking thyronorm 62.5 and my tsh is 5.7 with normal t3 and t4.

Yes you can take, but moderately, I.e once or twice a week, avoid in excess as it has goitre producing substances.

Haan, aap ragi le sakte hain, thyroid me ragi avoid karne ki koi strong need nahi hoti. Ye myth hai ki ragi digest nahi hoti ya thyroid me problem karti hai—actually ye ek healthy millet hai, calcium aur fiber accha deta hai. Bas 2–3 practical cheezein dhyaan rakhiye: • Thyronorm subah empty stomach lete hain, to ragi ya koi bhi high-fiber food uske 30–60 min baad hi lein (absorption pe effect na pade) • Excess me roz-roz bahut zyada quantity na lein, normal diet me 2–3 baar/week bilkul fine hai • Agar aapko personally gas/bloating feel hota hai ragi se, tab thoda reduce kar sakte hain Aapka TSH 5.7 hai matlab thoda high side pe hai (subclinical hypothyroid range), dose adjustment ki need pad sakti hai—endocrine/physician se consult karke repeat TSH 6–8 weeks me check karwa lijiye. Overall short answer: ragi allowed hai, bas medicine timing aur moderation ka dhyaan rakhiye

Ragi is safe in thyroid and won’t cause harm when taken in moderation; your TSH is slightly high, so focus is more on dose adjustment than diet restriction. For now, avoid taking ragi within 4 hours of thyronorm. You can book a consultation I’ll guide you step by step with diet and dose adjustment.

Consuming Ragi (Finger Millet) is generally safe and highly nutritious for individuals with hypothyroidism, provided it is prepared correctly. The concern regarding millets and thyroid health stems from 'Goitrogens'—natural substances that can interfere with iodine uptake. However, for a patient already on a stable dose of Thyronorm 62.5, the benefits of Ragi’s high calcium and fiber content often outweigh these minor concerns
Next Steps
Moderation is Key: Do not make Ragi your only source of carbohydrates. Rotate it with other grains like brown rice, oats, or whole wheat to ensure a diverse nutrient profile. Maintain Iodine Intake: Ensure you are using iodized salt in your cooking. Proper iodine levels help counteract any potential goitrogenic effects from millets. The 4-Hour Rule: Since you are taking Thyronorm 62.5 mcg, always take your medication on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. Wait at least 4 hours before consuming high-fiber foods like Ragi to ensure your medicine is fully absorbed. Monitor your TSH: Your current TSH is 5.7, which is slightly above the ideal range (usually 0.4–4.0). Continue your medication and repeat your TSH test in 8–12 weeks to see if your diet or dosage needs further adjustment.
