Thank you for sharing these detailed weight observations. It is reassuring that your baby is exclusively breastfed, has at least 6 wet diapers and 4 poops daily, which are good signs of adequate intake. After an initial weight loss (which is normal in the first few days), your baby regained to 4 kg by day 10—close to birth weight. However, by day 17, the weight remains at 4 kg, showing no further gain over the past week.
Next Steps
Carefully monitor the baby’s weight at regular intervals (every 3–4 days). Schedule a follow-up visit to confirm accurate weights and assess growth parameters (length, head circumference). Evaluate breastfeeding technique and latch—sometimes subtle feeding issues can impact weight gain. Rule out possible underlying medical issues or feeding concerns (e.g., tongue tie, ineffective sucking, maternal milk supply).
Health Tips
Ensure the baby is feeding at least 8–12 times per 24 hours, including night feeds. Watch for satiety cues (relaxed hands, contentment after feeds). Offer both breasts at each feeding and ensure baby finishes one side before switching. Sometimes babies have a plateau in weight gain, but persistent lack of weight gain may require further evaluation. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you notice any changes in activity, urination, stooling pattern, or if your baby is excessively sleepy or irritable. If you have ongoing concerns or the baby’s symptoms worsen, please schedule a consultation so we can provide tailored care.

Hello Babies lose up to 10% of birth weight in the first 5–7 days. Should regain birth weight by day 10–14. After regaining, expected weight gain is 20–30g/day. Baby lost 260g (about 6%) by Day 10 — acceptable. But no weight gain between Day 10–17 is not ideal.
Next Steps
Ensure deep latch, audible swallowing, no pain during feeds. Feed 8–12 times in 24 hours, both breasts per session. Check for signs of poor milk transfer: Short feeds (
Health Tips
Red flags: Baby becomes lethargic, stops feeding, fewer wet diapers, or appears dehydrated.

Dear parents, There is loss of weight upto 20percent in first' 10days,than start increases. Weight should be taken monthly And not as per wish. Normal' Wt gain per month in first' quarter is 750gm to 1000gm. So dont get confused. Confusions causes anxiety Anxiety decreases milk production And ultimately you start top milk
