Post viral dry cough can last for a few weeks even after fever settles, especially at night or while lying down 👍 But since you’re also feeling discomfort while breathing and unable to sleep properly, proper evaluation is important to rule out airway irritation, allergy or chest involvement. Please consult once so the exact cause can be assessed and the right treatment can help you recover faster.

Review after a week
A dry cough that persists after a fever has subsided (Post-Viral Cough) is very common, as the respiratory lining remains sensitive and inflamed. The fact that your cough worsens specifically when lying down suggests Post-Nasal Drip or mild Acid Reflux (GERD), where gravity causes irritants to tickle the back of your throat. Since you also mentioned discomfort while breathing, we must ensure that the initial infection hasn't left behind any minor airway hyper-reactivity or 'walking pneumonia' that needs more than just home remedies."
Next Steps
To discuss your breathing discomfort in detail and determine if you need a short course to open up your airways, please book a full consultation session via my Practo profile."
Health Tips
Elevate Your Head: "Sleep with an extra pillow to keep your head and chest slightly elevated. This prevents mucus or stomach acid from irritating your throat and can significantly reduce nighttime coughing fits."
Steam Inhalation: "Continue with the vaporizer, but ensure the steam is not too hot. Adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil can help soothe the airways before you lie down."
Hydration: "Drink warm fluids throughout the evening. Honey is excellent, but sipping warm water consistently helps keep the throat moist and reduces the 'dry' cough reflex."
Caution: "Do not continue to rely solely on lozenges or gargles if the breathing discomfort increases. Persistent post-viral inflammation needs targeted medical treatment to resolve fully."
Red Flags: "Seek immediate medical attention if you notice blood in your phlegm, develop a new high fever, or experience significant shortness of breath while resting
