Hello all ,
For the past 1 and half month I have been experiencing health related anxiety and in mild depression, i currently have cold and cough for about 10 days and i went to doctor for that , got my blood pressure checked and it showed 136/70 , I did not have a history of high blood pressure, this is the first time it's showing like this , is this spike because of my anxiety, cold and depression symptoms? Can I check my bp in mid July where i will be little bit alright?
Need your advice please.

Hello, thank you for sharing your concerns.
The blood pressure reading of 136/70 mmHg is only mildly elevated systolic-wise and does not qualify as hypertension on its own, especially if you have no prior history. Given your ongoing anxiety, recent upper respiratory infection (cold and cough), and mild depression, a transient rise in blood pressure is quite possible and not uncommon. Illness, stress, and anxiety can all influence BP readings.
It is very likely that this is a situational or reactive reading rather than persistent hypertension.
Next Steps
Monitor your BP regularly—preferably at the same time each day and in a calm environment (ideally after resting for 5–10 minutes).
• You may repeat the BP measurement in mid-July once you feel better, but consider checking it a few times over several days rather than relying on a single reading.
• Addressing your mental health is equally important—consult a psychiatrist or psychologist for guided therapy or medication if symptoms persist.
• Continue managing your cold and cough with supportive treatment and rest.
Health Tips
Avoid excessive caffeine, smoking, and late-night screen use, as these can worsen anxiety and affect BP.
• Stay well-hydrated, eat a balanced diet, and engage in daily light exercise or yoga/meditation to manage anxiety.
• If BP readings continue to remain elevated or increase further (above 140/90), consult a physician for further evaluation.
Take care, and you’re doing the right thing by being proactive about your health.

Hello,
Thanks for sharing your concerns. Let me reassure you step-by-step.
1. Blood Pressure Reading
Your BP was 136/70 mmHg — this is not considered high.
The upper number (systolic) is slightly on the higher side of normal, but the lower number (diastolic) is perfectly fine.
For a one-time reading, this does not indicate hypertension.
2. Could Anxiety, Cold, and Depression Cause a Temporary Spike?
Yes, absolutely. Temporary increases in BP can happen due to:
Anxiety or emotional stress
Infection or fever (like from cold and cough)
Lack of proper sleep
Caffeine, dehydration, or pain
This doesn’t mean you have a blood pressure problem — it’s your body’s normal stress response.
3. What Should You Do Now?
Relax and don’t keep checking your BP frequently — it can create more anxiety.
Manage anxiety and mild depression with lifestyle:
Regular walk/exercise
Deep breathing or meditation
Good sleep
Talk to a counselor if needed
Continue cold treatment as advised.
4. Should You Recheck BP in Mid-July?
Yes, that’s a good idea. When you’re feeling better, check BP calmly at rest, preferably 3 times on different days:
If all values are below 130/85, you’re perfectly fine.
If consistently above that, we may need further review — but no rush or worry right now.
Conclusion:
Your BP reading is within acceptable limits and likely raised due to temporary stress or illness. You can check again in a few weeks when you’re feeling better. There’s no reason to panic.
