Ultrasound abdomen
I am female, 29. I recently had an abdominal ultrasound because of lower abdominal pain. The scan showed fatty liver and borderline splenomegaly. My doctor mentioned that these findings are not related to the pain and are otherwise normal. Is borderline splenomegaly considered normal? I have also attached the reports.

Hello, Your ultrasound is showing some changes, but most of them are not serious. Pain in lower abdomen appears to be related to excessive bowel gas. However it’s better that you consult directly so that we can review your report together and if needed further investigations can be done step by step.

Borderline splenomegaly can be due to several reasons. It can be temporary due to fat storage, current infections, chronic malaria  strenuous exercise,  can be serious condition like blood cancers, chronic anemia, etc. Get complete blood count done and repeat ultrasound after a month.

The treatment will depend on the symptoms. Nothing specific in the sonography report.

Technically a spleen upto 12cm in dimension is considered normal. This mild change could be due to multiple reasons including if you had the scan done after a meal or you had exercised rigorously. This is not a cause of concern and as your doctor said is definitely not related to your lower abdomen pain. Need more info to diagnose cause of your lower abdomen pain. Please consult for the same.
Next Steps
With regard to the splenomegaly - Get a repeat USG abdomen after 3 months to rule out its transient nature. For your fatty liver - Avoid fatty meals, increase physical activity and get a few tests done to check levels of cholesterol in your body. CBC LFT Lipid Profile needs to be done.
