CBC and ultrasound
I am 28 year old female. I recently had an abdominal ultrasound because of mild pain. The scan showed borderline splenomegaly. I then had a CBC done because of borderline splenomegaly. All results came back normal except for my ESR, which is 56 (it was 44 six months ago). Do my spleen size and ESR values seem concerning? All my other blood tests, including LFT and KFT, are normal.

Borderline splenomegaly with normal CBC, LFT, and KFT is usually not a serious concern. ESR is a non-specific test and can be raised due to many minor or past conditions (like recent infection, inflammation, even anemia). Since your other blood tests are normal, it is not worrisome at present.
Next Steps
For now, stay reassured and continue regular follow-up.
Health Tips
I suggest you repeat the ultrasound after 3–6 months to monitor spleen size and discuss with a General Physician or Hematologist if you develop symptoms like persistent fever, weight loss, night sweats, or significant fatigue.

Hello, Considering your age (28) and the weight you provided (85kgs) is a bit concerning. Try focusing on eating a portion from each carb , protein and unsaturated fats . Your weight and the spleen enlargement might correspond to having an unhealthy diet and improper eating schedule. This could further lead to lowering of your immunity and making you more vulnerable to infections. Thus further deteriorating your health .
Next Steps
Try to cook your own meals (if not doing so) Limit your trans-fat (e.g butter) intake
Health Tips
Avoid processed or packaged food item.

With only elevated esr ..there is no proper diagnosis... Either u should do other blood investigation like RFT LFT URINE ANALYSIS.. to rule out other causes of splenomegaly... If everything is normal ....then nothing to worry.. Until u have any symptoms like bloating, pain over abdomen , loose stools ...fever ...no need to worry

Spleen  rnlage is chronic inflammation  so esr is raised. Any history of recurrent  fever cause Spleen enlarge. No any separate treatment for  raised esr.

Borderline splenomegaly on ultrasound with normal CBC, LFT, and KFT is usually not alarming, especially if you have no major symptoms. ESR can be mildly raised in many conditions like past infections, inflammation, or even nonspecific causes.
Next Steps
Continue observation and repeat ultrasound only if pain persists or worsens. Keep a record of ESR and repeat only if advised, as isolated ESR elevation is not specific. If you develop fever, weight loss, prolonged fatigue, or persistent abdominal pain, consult a physician/hematologist.
Health Tips
Borderline spleen enlargement with otherwise normal reports is often incidental. Don’t worry, but do regular follow-up if new symptoms appear.

High ESR only indicates some derangement of health recently. Mild splenomegaly can be due to multiple reasons. Share your complete blood count report, details of symptoms. Get c.t. scan abdomen done. It will show any abnormality in greater detail. Share results. Then I can help you.

Splenomegaly can be due various reasons but since you have raised ESR valves it suggests some underlying infection or inflammation. All your symptoms and reports should be seen for a clearer picture.
Health Tips
If you have fever you should consult at the earliest.

Hi Mild / borderline splenomegaly is considered normal . So a lot of things can be a cause of raised esr like for systemic inflammation( like rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)), chronic infections can cause spleen enlargement with raised esr. Esr is a marker of inflammation. If CBC is normal means we can rule out anemia So most probably esr has raised due to your infection.
Next Steps
Consult one on one if you require more assistance

Hello, A borderline enlarged spleen (borderline splenomegaly) can have many benign or transient causes, especially if all other investigations including CBC, LFT, and KFT are within normal range. An isolated rise in ESR (from 44 to 56) is non-specific – it can increase due to minor inflammation, infection, or even other non-serious conditions. Since your other parameters are normal and there are no alarming symptoms, it is not immediately concerning, but it does warrant monitoring and possibly a detailed evaluation if the pain or ESR continues to rise. It would be best to discuss your reports in detail with a physician to decide if any further tests or follow-up scans are required. You may book a consultation with me on Practo for a personalised assessment. Regards, Dr. Romain Rajan
