Typhoid Food Suggestions
Hi Sir/Mam, I had typhoid fever from 15th Jan 2026 and titre was 1:320. After taking IV injections for 12 dose and followed by 5 days of oral antibiotics it is treated well. By 24th Jan my fever has stopped, there is no fever/loose motion after that. 1st 10 days I have taken only watery foods. After that I took moong dal related foods without spice or oil. From 1st of March  started with a small amount to some medium level of spice in my foods now. It's almost 70 days without any fever. Can I slowly start eating non-veg foods?. Is my infection fully cured by now?.

You can start non veg foods, but avoid oily, spicy dishes. Fish would be a better choice. Slowly increase quantity of food taken.

Your clinical course is consistent with resolved Typhoid Fever; after 70 symptom‑free days you can usually resume a normal diet, including non‑vegetarian food, if otherwise well

Dear Madam, Thanks for the opportunity to answering your question and clarify your doubts. Based on the history you have provided, you were diagnosed with Typhoid fever on 15th January and received appropriate treatment with IV antibiotics followed by oral antibiotics. It is a positive sign that your fever subsided by 24th January and has not recurred since then. Being fever-free for about 70 days generally indicates that the infection caused by Salmonella Typhi has been effectively treated. Your gradual transition from liquid diet to light foods such as moong dal and then mildly spiced foods is the correct approach during recovery. At this stage, you may gradually start non-vegetarian foods, but introduce them slowly. Begin with easily digestible items such as boiled eggs, steamed fish, or soft chicken. Avoid very oily, fried, or heavily spiced foods initially. Ensure that all food is well-cooked and hygienically prepared. Continue to monitor your health. If you experience return of fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, or loose stools, you should consult your physician for further evaluation. Overall, your recovery pattern suggests that the infection has resolved, and you can slowly return to a normal balanced diet while maintaining proper hygiene and nutrition.
Next Steps
Gradually return to a normal diet * You may slowly introduce non-vegetarian foods such as boiled egg, soft chicken, or fish. * Start with small portions and see how your body tolerates them. * Avoid very spicy, oily, or fried foods for a few more weeks. ** Maintain good food hygiene * Eat freshly cooked food. * Drink safe and clean water. * Avoid outside or street food initially. * Focus on rebuilding strength * Include protein-rich foods (dal, eggs, chicken, paneer). ** Add fruits, vegetables, and adequate fluids. * Gradually return to normal physical activity. ** Watch for warning signs * Consult a doctor if you develop: ** Fever again Persistent abdominal pain * Vomiting or diarrhoea * Severe weakness or loss of appetite.
Health Tips
* Maintain a balanced diet: Include proteins (dal, eggs, lean chicken, fish), fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to rebuild strength. * Stay well hydrated: Drink adequate clean water and fluids throughout the day. * Eat freshly prepared food: Prefer home-cooked meals and ensure food is well cooked. * Gradually increase activity: * Start with light exercise or walking and slowly return to your normal routine. * Get adequate rest: Proper sleep helps the immune system recover fully. * Words of Caution Avoid very oily, spicy, or heavy meals for some more time until digestion feels completely normal. * Avoid street food or unhygienic food sources, as reinfection can occur if contaminated food or water is consumed. * Maintain good hand hygiene, especially before eating and after using the restroom. * If you develop fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, or loose stools again, consult a doctor promptly for evaluation. * With proper nutrition, hygiene, and gradual return to normal diet and activity, most individuals recover completely after typhoid.
