Measles
caused by Paramyxovirus
SX â fever, 3 Câs: cough, coryza (rhinitis), conjunctivitis
PE â vitals
Koplik spots (grains of white sand on oral mucoa, opposite 1st and 2nd molars)
Rash - maculopapular, spreads cephalocaudally - begins on face and behind ears and spreads to trunk and extemities
Next Steps
DX â ⢠Serologic testing (measles IgM antibody - serum IgM and IgG increased 4 fold) ⢠Viral detection via culture or PCR of throat swab or nasopharyngeal swabs

TX â Supportive (Tx fever w/ acetaminophen 350mg QID, hydration) Vitamin A 400 - 900 mcg QD Limit contacts Vaccine to contacts within 3 days of exposure Prevention Vaccine MMR: two doses - 1st at age 12-15 months, 2nd dose at age 4-6 years Complications: PNA, Otitis Media, SSPE
