Health Tips
Do not wait until pain develops, as pain often indicates that the condition has progressed to an advanced stage, leading to more complex treatment, increased cost and additional time commitment. It is advisable to address the issue at an early stage to ensure simpler, more predictable and cost-effective management.

Based on the photos and your history, this looks like natural tooth grooves with surface staining, not an active cavity at this time. Since there has been no increase in size for 3 months and you are not experiencing pain, sensitivity, or food getting stuck, it is unlikely to be tooth decay. Cavities usually grow and cause symptoms, which is not happening here. Lines and dark spots in back teeth are very common and often occur due to deep grooves, food staining, or plaque accumulation. This is not an emergency and there is no need to worry. However, photos cannot replace a clinical examination. A dental check-up and an X-ray (if required) will confirm it completely. My advice: maintain good oral hygiene, brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, limit sugary foods, and visit a dentist for routine cleaning and preventive care.

Hello Can be early cavity Sometime stains just need to be evaluated more deeply to see if there decay As it looks very initial so better to show the dentist and get it checked As small black lines if left untreated can eventually become a big cavity which in turn will get deeper
Next Steps
See the dentist and evaluate for decay

A lot of time they turn into pit and fissure cavities which seem light from outside but go deep inside. The picture resembles something like that, so the best option is to get it explored with a drill and get Sealant filled before it turns into a root canal. Prevention is always better than cure.

From the pictures, the black lines and dots you are seeing appear to be pit and fissure stains, which are quite common in back teeth. Since you mentioned the size has not increased over the last 3 months, it is less likely to be an active cavity, but stains and early decay can sometimes look similar clinically. I would suggest getting a clinical examination where the dentist checks the area with an explorer and, if needed, takes an X-ray to confirm whether it is only staining or early decay. If it is just a stain, polishing or sealant can help. If it is an early cavity, a small filling may be required. Meanwhile, maintain good brushing technique, especially cleaning the grooves of molars, and reduce frequent sugary or sticky food intake. If you notice pain, sensitivity, or increase in size of the spot, get it checked immediately.

Hello, In the first picture, it most likely appears to be surface staining in the pits and fissures. In the second picture, there seems to be a small cavity, and a simple filling is advised to prevent it from getting deeper. Early treatment at this stage is straightforward and helps avoid future complications. Hope this helps.
