Shilajit liver cirrhosis
70 yrs female,  my Doctor has prescribed half spoon Shilajit powder in milk everyday as I hv early stage compensated liver cirrhosis. Except low appetite and acidity gas, I hv no symptoms, but I do have hypertension for which I take betablocker bp medicine which mostly controls the bp. I take vitamin minerals meds .   I take diabetes medicine also & sugars are mostly controlled. •I hv heard it can lower bp and can hv heavy metals if not properly analysed.  So Is shilajit safe esp considering bp and age? •Can taking it for 15 days cause any metal toxicity? Thanks

Thank you for providing detailed health information — this is essential for giving a safe and informed answer. ### ✅ Summary of Your Case: * **Age:** 70 years, female * **Condition:** Early-stage **compensated liver cirrhosis**, **hypertension**, **type 2 diabetes**, **low appetite**, **acidity/gas** * **Medications:** Beta-blocker for BP, oral antidiabetics, vitamins/minerals * **Prescription:** Half spoon of **Shilajit powder in milk** daily --- ### 🧪 Concerns About Shilajit: Are They Valid? Yes, your concerns are absolutely valid. Let's address them point-by-point. --- ### ⚠️ 1. **Shilajit & Blood Pressure:** Shilajit may **slightly lower blood pressure** in some people due to its adaptogenic and vasodilatory properties. * **Your situation:** Since you are **already on beta-blockers**, combining this with Shilajit **may cause a slight drop in BP**, which in elderly individuals can lead to **dizziness or fainting**. * **What to do:** Monitor your BP regularly during the trial period. If systolic falls below 100 or if you feel dizzy, stop it and consult me personally. --- ### ⚠️ 2. **Shilajit & Liver Cirrhosis:** Although traditionally used as a liver tonic in Ayurveda, **Shilajit in liver cirrhosis** must be used with great caution. * If **properly purified (shodhit)**, it may **support detoxification and liver metabolism**. * However, **impure or untested Shilajit** can contain **heavy metals** (lead, arsenic, mercury), which can **worsen liver damage**. ✅ *Only use Shilajit if:* * It is **genuine and purified (shodhit)** * Tested for **heavy metal content** * Prescribed by a practitioner experienced in treating liver disease Ask your doctor/pharmacy to show **lab certification** for: * Heavy metal screening * Microbial safety --- ### ❓ 3. **Can 15 days cause toxicity?** * **Unlikely**, but **not impossible**. * A **low dose for 15 days** usually won't cause heavy metal toxicity *if* the Shilajit is pure. * However, if it’s contaminated, **even short-term use** can stress a **compromised liver**. --- ### 🌿 4. **Is Shilajit even needed in your case?** Given your: * Age (70) * Multiple medications * Liver vulnerability You might benefit more from **safer alternatives** for appetite and energy, like: | Ayurvedic Herb | Purpose | Safer for Liver & Age? | | ------------------- | -------------------------- | ---------------------- | | *******(****)** | Liver protection, immunity | ✅ Yes | | ******(****)** | Antioxidant, mild detox | ✅ Yes | | ******** | Heart and BP support | ✅ Yes | | ******* | Mild detox, digestion | ✅ Yes | --- ### ✅ Final Recommendation: * ✔ If your doctor is experienced in Ayurveda and prescribed **a certified purified Shilajit**, you can try **half a spoon in warm milk** for **15 days**, while: * Monitoring **BP** * Watching for symptoms like fatigue, dizziness, abdominal pain, or dark urine * ❌ **Avoid if source is unknown** or not lab-tested for safety * 🔁 Discuss safer alternatives like *****, ****, or ***** for longer-term support --- ### 🩺 Bonus Tip for Appetite & Gas (Cirrhosis-Friendly): Try this gentle homemade mix: * **1/4 tsp roasted cumin powder + 1/4 tsp ajwain + pinch of rock salt** in warm water after meals Would you like help identifying a **safe Shilajit brand** or Ayurvedic liver tonic that’s elderly- and liver-friendly? Advice- Consult me personally.

Mam I am not sure whom you are consulting, but please stop taking shilajit immediately as it is not indicated for you, especially with cirrhosis of liver. Just take bhumyamalaki ghanvati along with patolakaturohinyadi kashayam and follow HAIP DIET based on the anti-inflammatory principles of Ayurveda.  You can take trinapanchamoola kashaya to manage your bp but this has to be done under guidance.  Dont depend on vague suggestions for your condition please. They don't know what they are prescribing and so they just suggest without doing root cause analysis.  You have a pitta vata imbalance which can be corrected with right diet and basic herbs.

Namaste, At 70 years, with early-stage liver cirrhosis, hypertension, and diabetes, caution is wise. 🔹 Shilajit Safety – Key Points: Yes, pure, lab-tested Shilajit is generally safe short-term It may slightly lower BP, so monitor regularly Heavy metal risk exists if it's not from a reputed, quality-controlled brand ✅ Your Case: Half spoon daily for 15 days is unlikely to cause toxicity if it’s purified Prefer capsule form from trusted brands (like Dabur, Patanjali, Baidyanath, or Himalaya) for dose precision and safety Take after food, not on empty stomach ❗ Recommendation: Avoid unlabelled Shilajit powders Use only purified, doctor-approved product Monitor BP during use Consult your Ayurvedic doctor if unsure about brand/source

Genuine Shilajitu is semisolid in consistency and have the smell of cows urine. Better to avoid powder form ofShilajiu. Other wise it is a good rejuvenating medicine, especially in Diabetics. It is not a liver toxic medicine.
