Rabies Re-Exposure After Delayed PEP
Hello Doctor, I completed the rabies vaccine 4-dose post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) regimen with doses administered on days 0, 3, 7, and the last dose on day 32 (4 days late). If I get a new bite within the next 3 months, do I need any vaccine doses? Is the 3-month protection rule still valid in my case after the delayed PEP 4th dose? Should the 3 months be counted from day 28 or from day 32 (when the final 4th dose was actually administered to me)?

You need only boosters for fresh bite depending on duration of last PEP

It is better to take a single dose of Anti-rabies vaccine even if you are bitten by a dog within three months.

No problem in delay of 3 to 4 days, for scheduled vaccine date. If you have rebite, just take 2 booster doses.

Even if you get re-exposed, you would only need to take the first two doses as you are already vaccinated and antibodies would already be present in your blood and the two doses would work just as a booster.
