Rabies Query
I was scratched and licked by a puppy on 15th February, 2025. I panicked and went to doctor. She prescribed to take Anti-Rabies vaccine on 0, 3, 7, 14 and 28th day. I took them all and my last vaccine was in March 2025. Today (1st, June, 2026) again one street dogs playfully bit me in my hand. Not blood just tiny reddish make. I came back home and cleaned the area with soap. Then went to a local doctor. He injected me Abhayarab intramuscular in my right arm deltoid region. Should I again take 5 injections? Taking injection will cause any issue? Does frequent rabies injection will cause rabies actually? Is Abhayarab safe? I heard there are fake Abhayarab in market and they have published the problematic batch number. Should I take booster dose only?

Hi, Since you had a full vaccine before and this is just a minor playful bite with no bleeding, one booster is enough.  No, repeated vaccines don't cause rabies. You've done the right thing cleaning it and getting the shot.  Feel free to consult for further guidance.

Yes take complete course of vaccine. Abhayarab or any recognised vaccine is authentic, buy from a reputed pharmacy.

For a re-exposure case, you only need a 2-dose booster schedule administered on Day 0 and Day 3. Since your local doctor has already successfully injected the first intramuscular dose of Abhayarab in your right arm deltoid region, you are halfway through your necessary protective protocol. You simply need one final booster dose on Day 3 to achieve complete, robust viral protection.
Next Steps
It is medically impossible for frequent rabies injections to "cause rabies actually." Modern anti-rabies vaccines like Abhayarab are highly purified, inactivated (dead) cell-culture vaccines. Because they contain absolutely no live viral particles, they cannot replicate or cause the disease. Abhayarab is highly safe, globally trusted, and rigorously tested; minor side effects are limited to localized arm soreness, mild swelling, or low-grade fatigue.
Health Tips
To structurally verify your exact Day 3 booster scheduling dates, audit the batch tracking details of your vaccine vial for absolute peace of mind, and review the current healing status of your hand bite, please book a full consultation session via my Practo profile."
