A blocked nose with runny discharge and fever that isn’t improving with simple fever medicine suggests there might be significant inflammation or infection of the nose/sinuses. Medicines like antihistamines sometimes help, but if they don’t work, the issue may need a different approach aimed at reducing the swelling inside the nose. There are nasal sprays from the decongestant or steroid anti-inflammatory medicine groups that many doctors use in such situations. If you want a more personalized suggestion based on all your symptoms, we can also talk it over in an online consultation.
Next Steps
If symptoms are mainly nasal blockage, a short course of a decongestant nasal spray can give relief, but these shouldn’t be used for more than a few days in a row. For longer relief and to address inflammation, doctors often choose a nasal steroid spray for several weeks. If there is high fever, facial pain, or thick discolored discharge, a review by a doctor is advisable to check for sinus involvement.
Health Tips
Avoid using decongestant nose drops for more than 3–5 days continuously, as they can worsen blockage if overused. Gentle saline nasal rinses several times a day can help flush the nose and ease both blockage and runny discharge. If you develop new symptoms like persistent high fever, worsening pain around the face, or shortness of breath, seek medical care promptly
