Dry mouth (xerostomia) can occur even when blood sugar is normal and may be related to medicines, anxiety, mouth breathing, smoking, alcohol, or salivary‑gland problems.

Night-time dry mouth with dry palms/soles despite adequate water intake suggests mouth breathing during sleep, dehydration at night, medication side effects, anxiety/stress, thyroid problem, or salivary gland issue. Diabetes seems unlikely if sugars are normal.
Next Steps
• Avoid mouth breathing → check for snoring, nasal blockage, or sleep apnea • Use saliva substitute gel/spray at night • Apply thick moisturizer (petroleum jelly/urea-based cream) to hands & feet before sleep • Get tests: TSH (thyroid), CBC, electrolytes, kidney function • ENT or physician review if persists
Health Tips
• Avoid caffeine, alcohol, smoking at night • Keep water beside bed, take small sips • Use room humidifier • If dryness worsens or eye dryness/joint pain occurs → evaluate for Sjogren’s syndrome
