BMD testing is done for osteoporosis. It is usually done at lower end of radius and ulna( forearm) , lumber spine and hip joint. Osteoporosis is a painless condition. Patients usually presents with fractures or asymptomatic or height loss. So u need to consult a physician 1st for this severe pain or if possible consult a Rheumatologist ( specialist in nontraumatic pain in joints , muscle and bone) for detailed evaluation of its etiology.

BMD test is good option. However investigation is needed from baselines.
I would suggest for X ray of Hip and both knee.
Next Steps
if X rays shows some leading pathology we will plan for MRI. At present you get X rays done.
By the time you can take some medicines like muscle relaxant like cipzox and sprays.
