Potassium is one of the important ions in the blood circulation.  The others being Sodium, Chloride and Bicarbonate. Potassium is important as it is actively involved in heart beat. It is found in many food items but it doesn't become deficient by not eating a particular food item. No person goes to the hospital because he has "low potassium" . He goes to the hospital because of some symptoms and the Doctors, while doing routine blood tests find that he has low potassium. In India more than half of the population is rice eater. From your logic every other Indian should be Potassium deficient. But that doesn't happen. Your uncle can eat what he wants. Dry fruits, green leafy vegetables, beet root, potato, banana, Citrus fruits are rich sources of Potassium.

Rice is not a major source of potassium, but avoiding it is not necessary. Instead, focus on adding potassium-rich foods. Is chapati okay? Yes, chapati is fine, but it's also not a significant potassium source. Whole grains may have slightly more potassium than refined grains. Which fruits help? Bananas, oranges, kiwi, avocados, and dried fruits like raisins and apricots are excellent sources of potassium. Coconut water is also beneficial.

1. No need to avoid rice, but focus on potassium-rich foods. 2. Chapati is fine; it doesn’t lower potassium. 3. Eat potassium-rich fruits like bananas, oranges, watermelon, kiwi, and pomegranates. Also, try coconut water, spinach, and sweet potatoes.
