Hello, I am Dr Romain Rajan, General Physician. Your case has been allotted to me.
I understand your concern. Sudden dizziness and a feeling of fainting can happen when blood pressure or sugar drops. This is common in students who skip meals, study long hours or have irregular sleep.
Advices
1 Take something sweet immediately like glucose powder in water, fruit juice or even a spoon of sugar to bring your sugar level up quickly.
2 Sit or lie down for a few minutes with legs slightly elevated. This helps improve blood flow to the brain.
3 Eat small frequent meals every three to four hours to prevent sudden drops in sugar or blood pressure.
What to Monitor
1 If dizziness increases after standing.
2 Any sweating, shakiness or blurred vision which may indicate low sugar.
3 Persistent weakness even after eating.
Management
You may take oral rehydration solution and a light snack to stabilise energy levels.
If this is happening repeatedly, we need to evaluate your haemoglobin, thyroid profile and vitamin levels. After understanding your routine, diet pattern and stress levels, I can guide you with a personalised plan and medicines if needed.
When to Consult a Doctor Immediately
1 If you actually faint.
2 If chest discomfort or palpitations occur.
3 If dizziness continues even after eating and resting.
Every patientâs situation is unique. For accurate diagnosis and lasting relief, it is important to discuss your medical history and symptoms in detail.
You can reach out to me directly for this case and also connect with me in future for any medical consultation. I am available on Practo or on WhatsApp at 85271646 seven seven for a one on one consultation where you will receive
1 A personalised treatment plan
2 Safe medicine adjustments if required

As your BP is less than or equal to 90/60 mm Hg follow the below emergency care
1) I advice you to sit down if you are on the move /standing
2) drink adequate water to replenish lost body water
3) Put a toffee/ chocolate below your tongue and suck on it
If this has happened before quite frequently, I urge you to book a one to one consultation with your family physician or any physician you are comfortable with
I would also like to ask you a question to rule out certain other causes

Wishing you a speedy recovery
1. Drink plenty of fluids.
2. If you feel dizzy and you may not know if it's due to low BP or low glucose then have a good sweet coffee.
3. Coffee will raise bp temporarily and sugar will raise the blood glucose.
4. Always keep a tetra pack of juice and a pack of glucose biscuits handy.
5. If symptoms get worse , visit ER.
1. Your symptoms are due to low blood pressure or low sugar.
2. First, drink a glass of ORS or sweet juice immediately.
3. You can also take 2–3 spoons of glucose or sugar in water.
4. Lie down and keep your legs slightly elevated.
5. This will improve blood flow and reduce fainting.
6. Drink enough water to correct dehydration.
7. Eat something light like fruits, biscuits, or dry fruits.
8. Avoid long gaps between meals in the future.
9. Get your BP and blood sugar checked once properly.
10. If dizziness continues or you faint again, visit a doctor urgently.
You can feel free to consult
✅ 1. Sit or lie down immediately
Lie flat and raise your legs on a pillow/chair.
This helps blood flow to the brain and reduces fainting risk.
✅ 2. Correct low sugar immediately
If you can take something by mouth and you are not vomiting:
Take FAST sugar
3 teaspoons sugar in water OR
Glucon-D / ORS OR
Fruit juice OR
Candy/chocolate
Do NOT wait. Low sugar can cause fainting quickly.
After 10 minutes, if still dizzy, take small amount again.
✅ 3. Increase blood pressure
After sugar:
Drink ORS or salted water (½ teaspoon salt in one glass water)
Stay lying or sitting for 10–15 minutes
⚠️ 4. Go to nearest clinic/hospital urgently IF:
Dizziness continues after taking sugar
You faint
Chest pain or breathing difficulty
Sweating + shaking + confusion
Repeated low BP/sugar daily
These can be serious.
📌 5. Causes in students
Not eating properly / long gaps between meals
Dehydration
Excess stress
Not sleeping enough
Overexertion / standing long time
Viral illness
🥗 6. What to do next
Eat something with carbohydrates + protein (roti + dal, banana + biscuit, etc.)
Drink plenty of water during the day
Don’t skip breakfast
Check your BP and sugar regularly for a few days
If readings stay low → get checked by a doctor
Don't worry. These symptoms are common in youngsters due to poor nutrition, stress, sleep disturbances .To begin with get your routine blood tests done especially haemoglobin, fasting blood sugars, vitamin D and B12 and follow up with your family physician.
Next Steps
In the meanwhile,
Hydrate well. 2-3 liters of liquids daily
Have a high protein diet include dals, pulses and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables
Start some strengthening excercise and go for short walks.
Sun exposure daily.
Deep breathing excercise to manage stress.
Maintain good sleep habits.
