A haemoglobin level of 10.4 g/dL indicates mild anaemia, and along with short-term supplementation, dietary correction is essential, especially in a vegetarian diet. Focus on iron-rich foods: - Include green leafy vegetables such as amaranth leaves (chaulai) and spinach regularly, as they are good plant sources of iron. - Use bajra (pearl millet), which provides iron along with fibre and supports better digestion. - Add garden cress seeds (halim/aliv seeds) soaked or powdered in small quantities, as they are particularly helpful in improving haemoglobin levels. - Other supportive foods include lentils, beans, and dates. Improve iron absorption: - Combine iron-rich foods with vitamin C sources (lemon, amla, citrus fruits) to enhance absorption. - Avoid tea and coffee close to meals, as they reduce iron uptake.

Haemoglobin could be low due to several reasons not just iron. Iron supplements are only taken when ferritin is low. Without testing for ferritin levels, don’t take iron. Check for B12 levels and Vit D. Try increasing the consumption of Pomegrante, beet root, apples, pumpkin seeds, tofu, spinach, amaranth and enough protein - choose protein sources that suit your gut.

It’s always better to work on your metabolism rate. Taking supplements can give you temporary solution not permanent cure. Initially you can take atleast for 90 days and simultaneously you can start working on your metabolism rate so your body can start absorbing iron through natural food resources.
