Hello,
I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician (Ex Govt Medical Officer at RML Hospital, New Delhi), and your case has been allotted to me.
Thank you for explaining your concern clearly. I understand why this sudden weight gain is worrying for you.
Based on your history, this weight gain after TB treatment is actually quite common and usually indicates recovery and improved nutrition. During TB, the body is in a catabolic state, and after treatment, it shifts back to normal, leading to weight gain.
⸻
Possible reasons in your case
• Post TB recovery and improved appetite absorption
• Reduced metabolic stress after infection
• Possible fluid retention or low activity levels
• Rarely hormonal causes like thyroid imbalance
⸻
What you should do now
• Continue regular physical activity preferably brisk walking or light strength training
• Maintain portion control even with healthy food
• Increase protein intake and reduce excess carbs
• Avoid frequent snacking
⸻
Tests you can consider
• TSH to rule out thyroid imbalance
• Fasting sugar or HbA1c
• Basic metabolic profile if needed
⸻
Target and expectation
• Aim for gradual weight loss of 2 to 4 kg over 6 to 8 weeks
• Avoid crash dieting
⸻
Important reassurance
Your current weight gain is not dangerous and is most likely part of normal recovery. With simple lifestyle measures, it is easily reversible.

After completing TB treatment course, weight gain is usually common due to nutritional recovery , it is not a disease to worry about. But you can test for TSH/fT4, FBS, HbA1c to rule out other cause. Continue yoga, light exercise with healthy lifestyle, you can easily reduce 3-4 kg weight.
this pattern is actually very common after recovering from TB, and in most cases it’s a good sign of recovery, not a disease.
just have clean diet , workout for at list 150 min in a week and maintain healthy lifestyle, keep enough hydration, prefer intermittent fasting, and check thyroid profile
