It is understandable that you are concerned since your hemoglobin (Hb) level has dropped from 8.80 to 8.44 g/dL despite taking oral iron supplements. This indicates that your anemia is not currently being corrected and remains in the moderate-to-severe range for the 32nd week of pregnancy. Key Considerations Hb Level: A level of 8.44 at 32 weeks is concerning because your body needs adequate iron stores for delivery and postpartum recovery. Absorption Issues: Sometimes oral tablets aren't absorbed well by the gut, or the dose may need adjustment. Dietary Support: While beetroot and pomegranate are healthy, they generally do not contain enough elemental iron to correct clinical anemia on their own. Recommended Next Steps Consult Your Obstetrician Immediately: You must share these latest results with your doctor. Given that you are in your third trimester and the levels are decreasing, they may consider Intravenous (IV) Iron to raise your levels more quickly and effectively than tablets. Optimize Absorption: If your doctor advises you to continue oral iron, take it on an empty stomach with Vitamin C (like orange juice) and avoid taking it with tea, coffee, or calcium/milk, which block iron absorption. Monitor Symptoms: Watch for increased shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, or dizziness, and report these to your doctor right away. Do not stop or change your prescribed medication without your doctor’s approval.
