Hi, I had an elevated total bilirubin little so my G.P suggested golbi 300 for 3 months with my thyronorm first thing in the morning. I m on thyronorm for a long time n recently my dose was adjusted but never had any issue but ever since i m taking golbi I m severely constipated, i m taking ishabgol daily since golbi but one day i forget no stool or i have to strain. I was never constipated before , even for a small size I have to strain. Please help I dont want to rely on laxatives.

Golbi 300 (UDCA) is a known cause of constipation and bloating. If your bilirubin was only mildly elevated and you are otherwise well, it's worth asking your doctor to review your LFT reports and determine if the 3-month course is absolutely needed or if the dose could be lowered. Not everyone with mild bilirubin elevation requires long-term UDCA.
Next Steps
Share your LFT reports with your doctor and request a review of the Golbi prescription. Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation.

1.Thyronorm: Take your prescribed dose orally, once daily in the morning on an empty stomach (45–60 minutes before breakfast). 2.Golbi 300 mg: Take 1 tablet orally, once daily with or immediately after lunch or dinner. 3. Isabgol: Take 1 to 2 tablespoons mixed in a large glass of warm water or milk, once daily at bedtime (at least 4 hours after your Thyronorm dose).

Your liver function test is essentially normal. Total bilirubin is only mildly elevated (1.22 mg/dL), which is commonly seen in conditions like Gilbert’s syndrome and usually does not require long-term medication if other liver enzymes are normal. Golbi 300 is not a common cause of severe constipation, but since your constipation started after beginning it, the timing is worth discussing with your treating doctor. Also, if your Thyronorm dose was recently changed, please get a repeat TSH, Free T4 test, as under-treated hypothyroidism itself can cause constipation. For now: * Drink 2.5–3 litres of water daily. * Increase fruits (papaya, kiwi, pear, guava), salads and fibre intake. * Continue Isabgol with plenty of water. * Regular walking/exercise helps bowel movements. * Do not strain excessively. If constipation persists despite these measures, consult your physician regarding the need for medication review and thyroid function reassessment. A stool softener such as lactulose may be used temporarily if required and is not habit-forming.
Next Steps
Repeat TSH, Free T4 and discuss with your doctor whether Golbi is necessary and if it could be contributing to your symptoms
Health Tips
Seek medical review if you develop abdominal pain, vomiting, blood in stool, significant weight loss, or constipation lasting >3–4 weeks despite treatment.
