Extreme sore throat

I have had extreme sore throat for the past five to six days, more painful than anything I have ever experienced (I can barely swallow without a sharp pain shooting through me). I thought at first it was mono, then tonsillitis, but neither seem to fit because they come with other symptoms that I don't have (like exhaustion and fevers). It has gotten to the point where I cant sleep at night
