Good morning
I am 34 years old and I am having a 16 month old baby girl. I'm still breastfeeding but only during the nights. Recently from a month I'm experiencing extreme hair loss. I'm using traya and alps rosemary water for hair loss. And I've seen an improvement but suddenly the hair is shedding while just combing my hair. I have also gained weight upto 2kgs from 66 to 68. I've recently joined work after my maternity leave and I'm working in government sector. My job timings are from 10-6. It sometimes becomes late for me to come home mostly 8 pm. I am not knowing the issue and this is creating extreme stress for me. I used to do yoga before baby but now time is not sufficient for any physical workout.
Kindly give a suggestion for my well being .
Thank you in advance

Hair loss at your stage is very commonly due to postpartum telogen effluvium â a condition where hair that was retained during pregnancy starts shedding after delivery, and it can continue up to 12-18 months postpartum. On top of this, stress, disrupted sleep, and nutritional gaps from breastfeeding and a busy schedule can all worsen hair fall significantly.
Next Steps
Please get a blood test done including thyroid function (TSH), haemoglobin, serum ferritin, Vitamin D, and Vitamin B12, as deficiencies in these are very common causes of hair loss in your situation. These results will help guide the right treatment. Feel free to consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation.
Hair fall 12–18 months postpartum can still occur, especially if breastfeeding continues and stress levels are high.
Check investigations: CBC, Serum Ferritin, TSH, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, and Zinc.
Ensure adequate protein intake (eggs, milk, curd, pulses, soy, fish/chicken if non-vegetarian).
Continue a balanced diet and maintain hydration.
Aim for 7–8 hours of total sleep and try 20–30 minutes of physical activity (walking/yoga) most days.
Rosemary water is generally safe but evidence is limited. Avoid frequent changes in hair products.
If hair thinning is significant or persists beyond 3–6 months, consult a dermatologist for scalp examination and further management.

It’s temporary and improves with time, nutrition, and reduced stress.
Continue your current hair care, add balanced diet, rest, and gentle exercise when possible.
Feel free to consult for further guidance. 👍
The sudden shedding of hair can be due to stress, decreased sleep and anemia. Stress can be due to separation from baby and difficulty to get back to the work routine. You need to worry if 1. There are visible bald patches
2. Receding hair line
3. Losing more than 100 strands of hair a day
Next Steps
Get your Haemoglobin levels tested
Take your iron supplements at night and calcium supplements in the afternoon
Health Tips
Take plenty of oral fluids
Regularization of sleep routine
Keep stress under control and don't hesitate to take help

Your symptoms are most likely due to a combination of postpartum hormonal changes, ongoing breastfeeding, stress, lack of sleep, nutritional deficiencies, and recent work-related lifestyle changes. Hair fall after pregnancy is very common and can continue for many months, especially if stress and nutritional imbalance are present. Sudden increase in hair shedding can also occur due to iron deficiency, vitamin D/B12 deficiency, or thyroid imbalance.
The slight weight gain may be related to stress, reduced physical activity, irregular meals, and hormonal changes.
For now, continue gentle hair care and focus more on correcting the internal factors:
* Take a protein-rich diet (eggs, milk, curd, paneer, sprouts, nuts, green vegetables)
* Maintain adequate hydration
* Try to sleep adequately whenever possible
* Even 20–30 minutes of walking/yoga at home can help significantly with stress and hormonal balance
You may continue rosemary water if it suits you, but avoid excessive use of multiple hair products together.
Hair fall after pregnancy can continue for many months and may get worse with stress, lack of sleep, nutritional deficiencies, or thyroid problems. Your recent weight gain and increased stress also need attention.
Next Steps
Please get your Hb, ferritin, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, and thyroid profile checked. Try to maintain a protein-rich diet and adequate sleep as much as possible. If hair fall is increasing or you notice thinning of hair, consult a General Physician or Dermatologist for evaluation.
