Elevated total IgE
I got my general blood check up done wherein most parameters are normal. CBC is normal. Total IgE is 282. I don't have any kind of symptoms, only itching scalp and itchy ears. Is there any advanced tests that I should do ? Can high IgE cause problems? I too have acid reflux issues which is currently under treatment.

Serum IgE high indicates allergy. Need detail physical evaluation before opting for further tests. Allergy testing will usually show allergy to.something or the other which might not actually be the cause of your symptoms. Better to consult a physician in person. Take care

Elevated total IgE (282) suggests allergic/atopic condition: **Your Symptoms Explained:** 1. Itchy scalp and ears - classic allergic dermatitis/seborrheic dermatitis 2. High IgE confirms allergic tendency 3. Acid reflux unrelated to IgE but needs management **Additional Tests Needed:** 1. Specific IgE testing (food panel, environmental allergens) 2. Eosinophil count (if not done) 3. Stool examination (rule out parasites - can elevate IgE) 4. Skin prick test for common allergens 5. Serum vitamin D, B12 levels **High IgE Can Cause:** - Allergic rhinitis, asthma, eczema - Chronic sinusitis - Urticaria (hives) - Can worsen GERD symptoms **Management:** 1. Antihistamine (cetirizine 10mg at night) 2. Antifungal shampoo (ketoconazole 2%) 3. Continue GERD treatment 4. Identify and avoid allergens 5. Consider allergy specialist consultation The itching is likely allergic dermatitis related to elevated IgE.
