  4. Cold and cough medications. Resistance?

Cold and cough medications.
I heard that cold and cough is caused by viruses, then why doctors give antibiotics in these cases? Does that contribute to bacterial resistance? I have seen my family doctor giving antibiotics many times even when there is no fever. Please explain .
