Clonazepam withdrawal can be difficult, especially after long-term use and recent surgery, which itself can worsen anxiety. Restarting the same dose usually means the underlying anxiety disorder is still untreated, not that clonazepam has failed. What to do now: • Do not stop clonazepam abruptly. Tapering must be very slow and supervised. • Treat the core anxiety with a long-term medication (SSRI/SNRI ± buspirone/pregabalin) rather than relying only on benzodiazepines. • Once anxiety is controlled for a few weeks, clonazepam can be tapered gradually (sometimes over months). • Add CBT / anxiety-focused psychotherapy, which significantly improves success of benzodiazepine withdrawal. • Post-surgery stress and poor sleep can temporarily increase anxiety—this usually settles. Bottom line: You need a structured treatment plan, not just dose reduction. Please consult a psychiatrist for medication optimization and a planned taper.

Tapering clonazepam cannot be done without doctor supervision. However proper understanding of your condition and as to why the medication was started in the first place needs detailed interviewing.
Next Steps
You need to book an appointment with a psychiatrist.
