You’re likely experiencing benzodiazepine withdrawal / interdose rebound (“benzo belly” + high anxiety) due to self-tapering and dose interruption around surgery.
What to do now:
• Do NOT taper on your own. Stay on a stable dose first.
• Plan a very slow, supervised taper (5–10% dose reduction every 2–4 weeks).
• Consider splitting doses evenly or switching to a longer-acting benzo only under medical guidance.
• Add non-benzo supports (SSRI/SNRI, CBT, propranolol, sleep hygiene) as needed.
• Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and abrupt dose changes.
Important: Sudden changes can worsen anxiety and cause serious withdrawal.
Please consult your psychiatrist for a structured taper plan.
