A painful boil (furuncle) in the middle of your left buttock is usually a bacterial skin infection (often staph) in a hair follicle. It’s common in that area due to sweat, friction, and sitting. The main way to ease pain is warm compresses (not oilment/ointment alone). Topical pain relief ointments can help a little, but they don’t treat the boil itself. Most small boils heal on their own in 1-2 weeks with home care. Never squeeze or pop it — this can spread the infection and make it much worse.
Next Steps
1. Apply warm, moist compress (clean cloth soaked in warm—not hot—water) for 10-15 minutes, 3-4 times a day. This reduces pain, helps drainage, and speeds healing.
2. For pain relief: Take oral medicine like ibuprofen (Advil) or acetaminophen (Panadol/Tylenol) as needed (follow package dose).
3. Topical option: Try a pain-relieving ointment like Boil-Ease (contains benzocaine 20% for numbing) or similar products with lidocaine, menthol, or eucalyptus — apply thinly 1-2 times a day after cleaning the area. (Available in pharmacies; ask the pharmacist.)
4. Keep the area clean and dry; cover with a bandage if it starts draining.
5. See a doctor soon if: boil gets bigger, very red/swollen, you get fever, or pain doesn’t improve in 2-3 days — you may need drainage or antibiotics (especially since it’s in a sensitive spot).
Health Tips
• Wear loose cotton underwear to reduce friction and sweat.
• Take warm showers daily and gently clean with mild soap.
• Avoid tight clothes or sitting for long periods if possible.
• Wash hands often and don’t share towels to prevent spread.
