Baby weight
Hello doctor
My baby birthweight was 3.315kg however he is 3 month and 21 days now but his weight is still 5.5 kg . He is on breastfeeding. Please suggest what to do to gain baby weight. He looks very thin

Hi,
When the weight gain for your baby has been taken into account since birth uptil now, weight gain of 21g per day is seen on exclusive breastfeeding which is quite adequate! Also roughly put, babies usually double their weight (6.63kg) by 5 months which your baby has almost reached (5.5kg) by 3 months which is quite good and your baby is growing quite well, so no need to worry.

Additionally I would recommend checking your baby's length when you show your baby for the next vaccination/pediatric visit and correlating with growth centiles (given in usual vaccination books or using growth centile charts which will be available with all Pediatric docs) and check if your baby is growing normally.

Weight generally doubles by 6 months, so I think it is appropriate for age.
