I have been coughing with some pain in throat. I took 2 tablets of benzonatate 200mg. The second tablet i took at 8:30 pm EST. I am not able to sleep because of the constant cough. Can i take 1 teaspoon of promethazine codeine syrup at 10 pm EST. I went to doctor and this is not strep throat infection. Itis due to sinus and the phlegm dripping on to my throat.

You seem to be suffering from viral upper respiratory tract infection which is a common type of throat and nose infection in this season. You may need to take anti cold medicines and cough syrups along with steam inhalation for faster recovery. Dry cough syrups needs to be avoided in cases of active infection
