Vitamin D deficiency
I have very low vitamin levels- 11.3 I tried supplementing with vitamin D supplements but everytime I take them I feel anxious, hot flashes, insomnia and leg and lower back pain. I do not know what is causing this because I have tried multiple supplements and they all cause the same effects. What should I do?

A Vitamin D level of 11.3 ng/mL indicates a significant deficiency, but the side effects you’re experiencing (anxiety, hot flashes, and insomnia) are often linked to how your body processes the supplement rather than the vitamin itself. Why this might be happening: Magnesium Deficiency: Vitamin D requires magnesium to be converted into its active form. If your magnesium levels are low, taking Vitamin D can "drain" your remaining stores, leading to anxiety, cramps, and sleep issues. Cofactor Imbalance: Your body needs specific cofactors like Vitamin K2 and Magnesium to ensure calcium goes to your bones rather than your soft tissues. Dosage & Sensitivity: You may be sensitive to the specific fillers in certain brands or the high-dose "bolus" (large weekly) amounts. What to do: Check Magnesium Levels: Speak to your doctor about testing your magnesium and potentially starting a magnesium supplement alongside a lower, daily dose of Vitamin D. Take with Food: Ensure you take your supplement with a meal containing healthy fats for better absorption and reduced sensitivity. Personalized Support For a deeper discussion on correcting these deficiencies without the side effects, a tailored nutritional strategy is essential. Consult Clinical Dietitian M. Praneetha for a more detailed and personalized diet plan. We can look into your full nutrient profile to ensure all cofactors are balanced for a smooth recovery.

With vitamin D at 11.3, correction is important. However, the symptoms you’re experiencing after supplements may happen due to dose intolerance, magnesium deficiency, or improper timing of supplementation. In such cases, vitamin D needs to be corrected with a personalized approach including co-nutrients and diet. It would be better to review your reports before continuing supplements.

Add vit D along with cal, mag and k2 supplement. Try to include natural sources through the diet also. Sit in the sun also for 10-15 min daily without applying sunscreen. Stay hydrated always and take proper sleep.

Healthy evening First check possible reasons for supplements intolerance High single doses Poor magnesium levels Low vitamin K2 Acidity and sensitive gut These can cause palpitations, anxiety, heat sensitivity or sleep problems Try single or gentle dose instead of large weekly doses , try daily small doses Add magnesium Low magnesium often causes anxiety, insomnia, muscle pain Take Magnesium glycinate 200-300 mg at night This improves sleep and reduce side effects Ensure K2 with D3 Helps proper calcium metabolism and reduce side effects Sun exposure very important 20-30 min sunlight daily Between 8-10 am Foods that helps support vitamin D Egg yolk UV exposed mushrooms Fortified curd / buttermilk Fatty fish if non veg Plz check these blood tests Magnesium Vitamin B12 Calcium Thyroid Deficiency in these can worsen anxiety and insomnia
