Tympanoplasty procedure
Most Revered ENT surgeons here 🙏🏻 Does my father's age, 74 years, makes tympanoplasty a challenging/sensitive procedure in any which way? What adverse can happen if tympanoplasty gets failed due to any reason? Can sneezing with closed nose/mouth and exerting internal pressure to ears just once after tympanoplasty has an instant impact on tympanoplasty? Or tympanoplasty can sustain a few sneezes with internal pressure to ears? Warmest Regards 🙏🏻

This could have multiple causes requiring proper examination. The healing curve with age is slow. Also it is worth noting that hearing preservation should not be the aim of doing this surgery at this advanced age without proper evaluation of sensorineural hearing loss

Hello, if the procedure is not a success due to post operative complications then your father may again have ear discharge in the future with hearing problems. And it is strictly advised to avoid sneezing with closed nose , mouth as it may cause surgery failure

Hello gold to answer your doubt Healing takes atleast 3 weeks time And need to know his comorbidities status , if diabetic healing period varies Precautions post surgery after tympanoplasty as as follows Avoid water entry to the ears we recommend avoid head bath for 3 weeks time Avoid any sort of upper respiratory infections which shows symptoms like sneezing running nose, nose block, cough as it can cause congestion to the Eustachian tube (connection between nose and ears) leading to negative pressure build up leading to poor healing or infection spread leading to poor graft ( new ear drum) update Avoid strenuous exercises Avoid weight lifting Avoid constipation Keep ear dressing neat and sterile By following all these tips post procedure results will be so much better Thankyou
