A TSH value of 3.83 may fall within or near the upper normal range depending on lab reference values. Treatment is not decided based on TSH alone and depends on symptoms, T3/T4 levels, and clinical assessment. Self-starting thyroid medication is not advised. Please consult a General Physician for proper evaluation before any treatment. You may consult me via Practo.

A TSH level of 3.83 µIU/mL is within the normal reference range for most laboratories (usually ~0.4–4.5). On its own, this value does not usually require thyroid medication such as Thyropace, especially if your T3 and T4 levels are normal and you do not have significant symptoms of hypothyroidism. Thyroid medicines should not be started only to “improve metabolism” without clear medical indication, as unnecessary treatment can cause side effects.
Next Steps
• Check Free T3 and Free T4 levels if not already done • Monitor TSH again after 6–8 weeks if there are symptoms • Consult a physician/endocrinologist before starting any thyroid medication • Focus on lifestyle measures like balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate sleep
Health Tips
Do not self-start thyroid medication, as excess thyroid hormone can lead to palpitations, anxiety, bone loss, and menstrual irregularities • Thyroid treatment is usually needed only if TSH is persistently elevated, symptoms are significant, or during pregnancy planning • Weight or metabolic concerns are often due to causes other than thyroid
