Tooth Decay
I recently got an x-ray for my teeth done, there is a tooth on my left-upper jaw (2nd from last teeth, I think we call it the third molar) with a bad decay. I do not feel any pain in the tooth yet. My question is, does it need root canal treatment or is filling enough? Please check the attached X-ray file.

Hi there The history and Opg x-ray reveals that you have a decayed tooth pretty close to nerve... Well root canal is advised when you have persistent pain which is throbbing and radiating to temple and behind ear and if the pain aggregates only in late evening and on doing cold water. If you just have sensitivity which subsides after few seconds then just a filling should suffice...

That's the second molar on the right side of your upper jaw. From the OPG it looks like it has still not reached the pulp and a filling can be done. I advise you to get an IOPA or a smaller x-ray and let the dentist take a call. Also it would be in your best interest to get the wisdom tooth next to it removed.

The tooth you have mentioned is not third molar. It is second molar tooth. It has got interdental caries and it seems to extending near the pulp. So you might need to go for root canal treatment followed by crown. Already you have lost your first molar tooth so atleast save this tooth else it will difficult to chew on this side.
