Thumb swelling, pain and nail whitening

Asked for Female, 56 Years

My mom is experiencing high pain in her thumb where it seems like has gotten a bit swelled up and also the thumb nail looks white from the bottom edge as seen in the picture. Please suggest treatment and if can be treated at home only. She is finding difficulty in working and it is very painful in the thumb area.
