My wife is having severe pain in left hand thumb joint pain since yesterday. Please guide for treatment.

Is there any history of trauma? Straining of the thumb can lead to a minor ligament injury on the inner side of the thumb base.
Next Steps
Apply ice. To use a Thumb spica splint to immobile the thumb. Get an x ray of the hand Ap and Oblique views just to rule out small fractures
