Hello, Thank you for sharing your concern so openly. It sounds stressful and emotionally difficult for you to manage these behavioural changes in your child. At this age, children begin entering early adolescence, where emotional, behavioural, social, and physical changes can become more noticeable. Some children at this stage may show increased screen dependence, irritability, resistance to studies, emotional outbursts, or influence from peers and online content. However, when behaviours such as aggression, excessive mobile use, foul language, academic difficulties, overeating, or emotional dysregulation start affecting daily functioning and family relationships regularly, it is important to pay attention rather than ignore them. Instead of frequent scolding, punishment, or domination, try to: • Spend regular one-to-one quality time with him • Talk calmly without judging or immediately correcting • Set gradual and consistent screen-time boundaries • Encourage outdoor activity, sleep routine, and family interaction • Appreciate small positive behaviours instead of focusing only on mistakes Since there are also concerns related to health, eating habits, and behaviour, consulting a child or adolescent psychologist can be helpful. A professional can understand whether these behaviours are mainly developmental, emotional, behavioural, or related to stress, attention, lifestyle habits, or other underlying concerns. Early support and guidance can make a positive difference. Warm regards, Dr Namita Ranjan Counselling Psychologist

Kids at this age (and current time) can get very attached to mobiles, food, and travel, might have stronger preferences and boundaries, and sometimes push back hard against family rules. That part can be normal, but when it turns into aggression or hurtful words, it’s a sign she may need extra support. It doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a disease, but counseling can really help her learn healthier ways to cope and give the family tools to guide her. With medical issues already in play, paying attention to emotional wellbeing is just as important.

Hello, Thank you for sharing your concern. I understand this situation can feel very stressful for the family. From what you’ve described, your child is showing: • High mobile usage and low interest in studies • Difficulty following instructions • Occasional aggression and use of inappropriate language • Lifestyle concerns (weight, fatty liver) At this age (around 11 years), some behavioral changes can be seen, but when they are persistent, intense, and affecting daily functioning, it’s important to look deeper. This behavior is usually not just “stubbornness” or “bad behavior.” It can be influenced by multiple factors such as: • Excessive screen time affecting attention and discipline • Lack of structured routine • Emotional needs not being expressed properly • Possible difficulty with impulse control or attention • Lifestyle habits (sleep, diet, activity levels)
Next Steps
Since the behaviors include aggression, low focus, and lifestyle concerns, I would strongly recommend a psychologist consultation. A proper assessment can help understand if there are underlying concerns like attention difficulties, emotional regulation issues, or behavioral patterns that need structured intervention. Early guidance can make a significant difference. You can reach out for a detailed evaluation and support plan.

What I can see from what you’ve shared is that there are some emotional and behavioural concerns worth taking seriously — and you’re right to reach out. At 11, children sometimes struggle to communicate their emotions clearly, and what comes out instead is aggression, defiance, or withdrawal. The screen dependency, the food-seeking, the outbursts with family — these can all be signs that something emotionally is not being processed well. This isn’t about labelling your child. It’s about understanding what’s underneath. A proper psychological screening would help explore possibilities like ADHD, ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder), or emotional regulation difficulties — all of which are very manageable when caught at this age. At the same time, family dynamics play a big role too. How the family communicates, sets boundaries, and responds to the child matters just as much as what’s happening with the child individually.
Next Steps
Start with a psychological assessment. From there, we can build a plan that works for both the child and the family together.
Health Tips
You’re clearly doing your best as a parent — reaching out is already a step in the right direction. Let’s work on this together.

This needs a child psychologist assessment because such behavior can come from attention issues, screen overuse, emotional stress, learning problems or a behavioural disorder

Hi, It sounds like the child is exhibiting behavioral challenges such as lack of focus on studies, excessive mobile use, interest in food and travel, and occasional aggression, which can be concerning. Such behaviors can sometimes be related to emotional or psychological issues, stress, or developmental factors, but they are not necessarily signs of a specific disease. It is important to observe if these behaviors are ongoing and affecting the child's well-being and daily functioning. I strongly recommend consulting a child psychologist or psychiatrist for a comprehensive assessment. Professional counseling can help identify any underlying issues, address behavioral concerns, and guide appropriate interventions. Additionally, creating a supportive environment, setting boundaries on mobile and food intake, encouraging physical activity, and engaging in open communication with the child can also be beneficial. Remember, early intervention can make a significant difference in helping the child develop healthier habits and emotional stability.
