Hello, I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician.
Ex-Resident, RML Hospital, New Delhi.
Your case has been allotted to me.
After taking Bandy Plus (albendazole + ivermectin), the worms are killed or paralyzed inside the intestine and are then expelled from the body through stools. They do not get absorbed into the body.
How it works (in simple terms):
• The medicine disrupts the worm’s energy system, causing it to die or become inactive
• Small worms may get partially digested and may not always be visible
• Larger worms or segments (especially tapeworms) may sometimes be seen in stools as dead or inactive pieces
• Not seeing worms in stools does NOT mean the treatment has failed
Important points to remember:
• Mild abdominal discomfort, nausea, or loose stools can occur temporarily
• Good hand hygiene and proper washing of fruits/vegetables is essential
• In some cases, a repeat dose after 2 weeks is required (depending on the type of worm)
• Stool examination may be advised if symptoms persist
When to See a Doctor Immediately
Please seek medical attention if you develop:
• Persistent abdominal pain or vomiting
• Blood in stools
• Severe weakness or anemia symptoms
• Continued passage of worms despite treatment
