Ultrasound Report Interpretation
Thick-walled: Suggests a chronic process (e.g., organized hematoma, chronic abscess, granuloma).
Heteroechoic collection: Means the content of the collection has mixed echogenicity (likely old blood, debris, or fibrous tissue), not just clear fluid.
Subcutaneous plane: The collection is superficial, under the skin, and not involving deeper muscles or bones.
What This Suggests
Given the history of an injection 6 months ago, this is likely a chronic organized hematoma or a post-injection granuloma.
If the child has no redness, fever, or tenderness, it might just need monitoring.
If the child has redness, warmth, or pain, or if the collection is enlarging, it may need aspiration or surgical drainage.
Next Steps
Clinical Check:
Is the area red, warm, or painful?
Is the child walking/crawling normally?
Any systemic symptoms (fever, weight loss)?
Consider an FNAC or aspiration:
If there is doubt, a needle aspiration can confirm the nature of the collection (blood, pus, granuloma).
Treatment Decision:
If asymptomatic, watchful waiting may be enough.
If infected or symptomatic, surgical drainage or antibiotics may be needed.
It is a hematoma which is collection of blood (under the skin here) likely developed after vaccination 7months ago.
Child needs a few blood tests like CBP,PS, Coagulation profile.
If the size is not progressive, no signs of inflammation then we can wait and watch after surgeon consultation
