Hello doc
My dad 53/male is k/c/o htn, dm, and ihd
Recently he has a backache which was not subsiding on medications.
And x ray had to be done..and x ray shows L5-S1 compression.(He also had h/o dragging pain in left lower limb from past 1n 1/2 months)
Now the doctor in my city told to continue bed rest and after mri surgery may be/may not be needed.now the doc gave pregabalin, deforz and NSAIDS.
Should my dad continue with corticosteroids as it can increase glucose levels?
Or just go with physiotherapy after the medicines are over?
I am attaching x ray photo here.
Pls give me suggestion

Lumbar X-ray suggests degenerative changes at L5âS1 which can explain the back pain radiating to the left leg; since symptoms are persisting an MRI LS spine is advised for proper assessment of nerve compression. Short-term medicines like pregabalin and NSAIDs are appropriate for nerve pain, but corticosteroids should be used cautiously in diabetics as they can raise blood sugar and should not be continued long-term. Prolonged bed rest is not recommended; once acute pain reduces, guided physiotherapy and back-strengthening exercises are essential. Surgery is considered only if MRI shows significant nerve compression or if pain and weakness do not improve after adequate conservative treatment.
