Shelcal HD contains calcium carbonate and Vitamin D3. Calcium carbonate is absorbed better when taken with food, because stomach acid produced during meals helps its absorption. Taking it on an empty stomach may reduce effectiveness and can sometimes cause acidity or discomfort. Therefore, the best time to take it is after a main meal, usually after breakfast or lunch.
Next Steps
You can take Shelcal HD once daily after food, preferably: • after breakfast or lunch • swallow with a full glass of water • avoid taking it at the same time as iron tablets or thyroid medicines, keep at least a 2-hour gap If it has been prescribed for bone health, vitamin D deficiency, or osteoporosis prevention, it is usually continued for several weeks to months depending on the doctor’s advice.
Health Tips
For better calcium absorption and bone health: • Ensure adequate sunlight exposure (15–20 minutes/day) • Include calcium-rich foods like milk, curd, paneer, sesame seeds, and green vegetables • Regular walking or weight-bearing exercise helps calcium deposit into bones If you want, you can also book an online consultation to review your calcium and vitamin D levels and I can guide you on the correct duration of Shelcal HD and whether any additional supplements are needed.
