Hi, I am a Consultant Hand & Orthopaedic surgeon. As you're only 25 and mentioned you haven't been taking this seriously, I advice you strongly to see a rheumatologist as neglecting Rheumatoid Arthritis and not having appropriate medicines to control flare ups can lead to permanent & irreversible joint destruction (in a few years- and this is when you need a surgeon). In your case, prevention (good long term control of disease by medicines) is much better than regret in future due to neglect. With the current advances in medical treatment, you should have excellent control of symptoms without needing surgery hopefully for decades. Hence my advice.
