Even after 5 weeks of hemorrhoidectomy, pain, itching are still common because it’s still healing and new nerve endings are regenerating.
Next Steps
Supportive treatment:
• Sitz bath (warm water sitting) – 10–15 minutes 2–3 times daily
• Topical lignocaine + nifedipine ointment – apply twice daily for 1–2 weeks if pain/irritation
• Stool softener (Lactulose syrup 15 ml at night) if stools start becoming hard
• Tab Paracetamol 500 mg if occasional pain
Health Tips
Avoid prolonged sitting; take breaks every 30–40 minutes.
• Maintain high fiber diet (vegetables, fruits, oats).
• Drink 2–3 liters water daily.
• Avoid straining during bowel movements.
• Mild itching during healing is very common.

At 5 weeks after hemorrhoidectomy with anal dilatation and sphincterotomy, the symptoms you are describing are quite common during the healing phase and usually do not indicate any complication. Even though the major wound healing occurs within 3–4 weeks, the anal canal tissues remain sensitive for several more weeks. Mild pain on prolonged sitting, itching while walking, and occasional pricking or tingling sensation usually occur because the surgical area is still remodeling and the small nerve endings are recovering.
Since your stools are soft and there is no significant pain during bowel movement, that is a very good sign and indicates that healing is progressing well. The itching and pricking sensation are often due to new skin formation and mild local irritation, which gradually settles as the wound completely epithelializes.
In most patients, significant improvement occurs by 6–8 weeks, and a near-normal feeling usually returns by 8–10 weeks after surgery. Some minor sensitivity with prolonged sitting can occasionally persist a little longer but typically improves gradually.
Next Steps
For comfort, it is advisable to avoid prolonged sitting, use a soft cushion if needed, maintain good local hygiene, and continue warm sitz baths once or twice daily, which help reduce irritation and improve blood flow to the healing tissue. Applying a mild soothing ointment such as lignocaine-based gel or a protective barrier ointment around the anal area may also help with itching and pricking sensation if your surgeon approves.
Health Tips
If you notice increasing pain, bleeding, fever, swelling, discharge, or difficulty passing stool, you should consult your surgeon. Otherwise, the symptoms you are experiencing fall within the normal recovery period, and you should continue to improve over the next few weeks.

At 5 weeks after surgery, the symptoms you describe—itching while walking, occasional pricking sensation, and pain when sitting for long periods—are quite common during recovery from procedures like Hemorrhoidectomy, Anal Dilatation, and Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy.
These procedures involve sensitive tissues in the anal canal, and complete healing can take 6–8 weeks or sometimes a little longer. The itching and pricking feeling often occur because the surgical wound is still healing and new nerve endings are regenerating.
Since your stools are soft and you no longer have significant pain during bowel movement, it suggests that healing is progressing normally.
Next Steps
• Continue warm sitz baths 2–3 times daily, especially after bowel movements.
• Keep stools soft with high-fiber diet and adequate water intake. If stools start becoming hard again, a mild stool softener like **Lactulose may be used temporarily if advised by your doctor.
• Avoid prolonged sitting; use a soft cushion or donut pillow if needed.
• Maintain good local hygiene and keep the area dry to reduce itching.
Contact your surgeon if you notice increasing pain, swelling, bleeding, pus discharge, or fever, as those may suggest infection.
Health Tips
• Eat fiber-rich foods (fruits, vegetables, oats, whole grains) to maintain smooth bowel movements.
• Drink 2–2.5 liters of water daily unless restricted.
• Gentle walking improves blood circulation and healing.
• Avoid heavy straining or lifting during the recovery period.
Most patients feel significantly better by 6–8 weeks, with gradual improvement in residual sensations like itching or pricking.
If you would like, you can also share whether there is any swelling, discharge, or bleeding currently, and I can guide you further about whether your healing course is completely normal or needs review during an online consultation.
At 5 weeks after hemorrhoid surgery, mild pain, itching, or pricking sensation can still occur as healing continues.

Recovery: Most patients feel near normal by 6–8 weeks. Consult your surgeon if pain worsens, bleeding occurs, or symptoms persist.
