Rabies is an infectious disease which is Fatal. Licks on intact skin by wild animal, scratch without oozing of blood - does not require any treatment/vaccination. Licks on fresh cut, scratch with oozing of blood, bites anywhere on the body - requires proper treatment/ vaccination for post exposure prophylaxis. (Now if a person is previously vaccinated within last 2 yr he will require only 2 doses of vaccine on Day0 and Day3 ) More than 5 bites/lacerations, bites over the head,  neck, face, palm and fingers are considered to be more serious and requires immediate medical management.
