Hi doctors, I have taken rabivax-s on jan 11,jan14 and jan 17 2025. I have a pet and it scratched me today, burning feeling after scratch with red dots but no visible blood.(28 march 2025) For how long i am protected from pet scratches and pet bites from my vaccine in jan, is it required again now?

Since you completed Rabivax-S in January, you are protected for at least 6 months to 1 year for minor scratches.
Next Steps
A booster dose is usually not needed for superficial scratches without bleeding, but if unsure, consult a doctor.

Dear Patient, Thank you for your question regarding rabies vaccine protection. Based on your vaccination history and recent exposure, here's the medical guidance: Key Information About Your Rabies Vaccination: 1. You completed the **3-dose pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)** series in January 2025 (Rabivax-S on Jan 11, 14, and 17) 2. This provides **long-term immunity**, but booster doses may be needed after exposure Regarding Your Current Situation (March 28 Scratch): 1. Risk Assessment:    - Pet scratches can transmit rabies if the animal is infected    - Your vaccinated pet likely poses minimal risk if:      * It's currently vaccinated against rabies      * It can be observed for 10 days      * It's not showing abnormal behavior 2. Recommended Action:    - Wound Care:Immediately wash the area thoroughly with soap and water for 15 minutes    - Booster Recommendation:      * Since your last vaccine was **less than 3 months ago, you likely still have immunity      * However, the WHO recommends **2 booster doses (day 0 and day 3) after exposure for PrEP recipients    - Pet Monitoring: Observe your pet for 10 days for any behavioral changes Important Notes: 1. Even with vaccination, proper wound care is essential 2. If your pet cannot be observed or shows any signs of illness, seek immediate medical care 3. The burning sensation and red dots suggest some skin barrier disruption Consultation Recommended: To properly assess: 1. Your pet's vaccination status 2. The severity of the scratch 3. Whether booster doses are needed in your specific case For personalized advice, please consult me via WhatsApp at **Eight Zero Zero Nine Eight Two One Three Three Two** to review your case details and pet's health status.
