Rabies fear
Ho doctor, In recent times I have seen lot of videos regarding rabies in social media which affected my inner peace. Nowadays I am afraid of going out just to buy groceries. I am not allowing my kids to play outside, park etc. Whenever I go out I am keenly watching the road where the dogs comes, goes or it comes near us etc. After coming back to home also my full thought was about the dogs whether it touched me, bitten me or scratched me (imagination). Please help me to come out of this situation. I am very much tensed nowadays.

Hi It sounds like your mind has latched onto a fear and is now constantly scanning for danger, which is why even normal situations like stepping out or your kids playing feel unsafe. Social media has likely amplified this fear, making your brain overestimate the risk and treat it as immediate and personal. What you’re experiencing is an anxiety loop where intrusive thoughts create doubt, doubt creates checking and avoidance, and that avoidance temporarily reduces fear but strengthens it in the long run. The more you try to be sure that nothing happened, the more your mind keeps asking “what if.” In therapy, we would first help you understand this pattern and gradually reduce the checking, reassurance seeking, and avoidance so your brain can relearn that you are actually safe. We would use CBT techniques like reality testing of risk, limiting exposure to triggering content, and gradual exposure such as stepping out for small durations without scanning or checking. Alongside this, you would learn how to handle intrusive thoughts by not engaging with them and letting them pass instead of trying to solve them. Over time this reduces the fear intensity and brings back your sense of control. This is very treatable and you can get your normal life back with the right guidance. Take therapy. Hello, I can understand how distressing and overwhelming this must be feeling for you. Constant exposure to such content can sometimes increase fear and make our thoughts go into a loop, even when there is no real danger. From what you’ve described, it seems like anxiety and repeated intrusive thoughts are taking away your peace and affecting your daily life. This is something many people experience, and it can be managed with the right support. It would be important to consult a psychiatrist, who can properly assess what’s going on and guide you with appropriate treatment. With help, this can definitely improve.
