Based on your description, there is no risk of rabies and you do not need another vaccine. Rabies can only spread if fresh saliva from a rabid animal directly enters an open wound, a fresh scratch, or comes into direct contact with the eyes or mouth in significant quantity. In your case, the dog saliva was mixed with water stored in a bucket, which means it was already diluted and the virus cannot survive in such conditions. Bathing with that water or washing your eyes does not count as rabies exposure, especially since you recently completed both a full 4-dose vaccination in August and a 2-dose booster in November, which gives you strong protection for months. The slight burning sensation in the genital area is unrelated to rabies and is more likely due to simple irritation, moisture, or anxiety.
Next Steps
You do not need to take any rabies vaccine for this incident. No rabies risk is present. The only thing you need to do now is relax and observe yourself normally. If the burning sensation in the genital area continues, keep the area dry, avoid friction, and wear loose cotton clothes. It will usually settle on its own in 1â2 days. You can wash the area gently with clean water if needed. There is no need for any special medicines, tests, or injections related to rabies.
The situation you described does NOT qualify as a rabies exposure based on medical and WHO guidelines.
Here's Why?
Rabies does not spread through water that a dog may have licked earlier.
Rabies virus is extremely fragile outside the body.
It cannot survive:
in water
in open air
on surfaces
after dilution
By the time you used that bucket, any saliva residue would be non-infectious.
Bathing in that water or water going into the eyes does not cause rabies.
For rabies transmission, there must be:
a fresh bite / scratch, or
infected saliva directly entering a fresh wound or mucosa at that same moment
Using a bucket hours later does not transmit rabies.
You already completed full ID vaccination + re-exposure doses.
means your immune system is already primed and protected.
You do NOT need another vaccine for this incident.
The burning sensation in the genital area is unrelated.
Likely irritation, dryness, friction, soap reaction, or anxiety-related body awareness.
Right now the main issue is health anxiety, not rabies risk.
To give you complete clarity, I need to understand your previous exposures, timing, vaccine schedule, and anxiety patterns properly. Once I check everything, I can guide you on whether anything else is needed and help you break this fear cycle safely.

No, it Is not at all needed.
See, first off all you have taken the vaccine already and secondly, rabies does not spread till the time the saliva of the animal doesn’t comes in direct contact of your blood, through a cut or a bite. So you need not worry

You do NOT need any rabies vaccine or booster.
You are completely safe.
This incident is NOT a rabies exposure.
Indian Guidelines (NIMHANS / WHO – India)
For people who already received full PEP in past 3 years:
• Only 2 booster doses (Day 0 + Day 3) are needed if there is an actual bite.
• No vaccine for:
• Touching a dog
• Licking on intact skin
• Contact with water, urine, feces
• Saliva exposed to environment
• Uncertain contact
• Anxiety-related fears
Your case = No exposure at all.
Next Steps
1️⃣ Your protection level is extremely high
You have already taken:
• Full 4-dose ID PEP (Indrab) on 27 Aug 2025
• Full 4-dose re-exposure schedule ending 22 Nov 2025
This gives long-lasting immunity.
After a full PEP + re-exposure schedule, your memory immunity is very strong, and no additional boosters are needed for minor or non-exposures.
2️⃣ Your bath incident is NOT a rabies exposure
Rabies transmission requires:
• Bite,
• Scratch breaking skin, or
• Saliva contacting fresh wound / mucosa directly from the animal.
In your case:
• A stray dog licked water inside a bucket, not on your body
• You bathed later, after the water was already there
• Soap or no soap does not matter
• Rabies virus cannot survive long in water, especially diluted
• Bathing with contaminated water does NOT cause rabies
• Cleaning your eyes with water that had been standing is also NOT a risk
This is Category 0 exposure → No risk. No vaccine. No RIG. No treatment.
3️⃣ Burning sensation in genital area is NOT rabies
Burning can occur from:
• Mild irritation
• Hard water
• Anxiety (very common after rabies fear)
• Soap residue
• Fungal irritation
Rabies never presents as burning in genital area.
No, you do NOT need any rabies vaccine for this incident.
Reason:
Licking water in a bucket that you later used for bathing/eyes does NOT transmit rabies.
Rabies virus dies quickly outside the body and cannot survive in water.
There was no bite, no scratch, no fresh wound, so zero risk.
Burning sensation in genital area is not related to rabies — likely irritation, sweating, dryness, or mild infection.
You are fully protected because:
You completed 4-dose primary (ID) in Aug.
You took 4 doses for re-exposure ending 22 Nov.
Even if a real exposure happened, you would only need 2 booster doses, but here no exposure happened.
Conclusion:
No vaccine needed. No risk. Relax.
