QUERY REGARDING ANTIBIOTIC REGIME
My mother is suffering from Typhoid fever and URTI simultaneously. She has been prescribed : Azithromycin 500 mg : 1 Tab OD Cefixime 200 mg : 1 Tab BD For how long does she have to take the course of the above antibiotics ? My doctor is saying that only 5 day treatment with antibiotics will cure these ailments. Is it true? Are 5 days enough? My friend had typhoid and he was treated with 5 days antibiotic course and because of which his typhoid had relapsed severely and then he had to take a 14 day dual antibiotic treatment therapy. So, I am very much worried. Please tell me that the above mentioned drugs should be ideally given for how many days to treat typhoid which do not relapse and also URTI ? Please guide.
