Answer (By Dr. Shivam Bhandari Jain, Consultant Psychiatrist) You’re not alone—this is a classic presentation of health anxiety and panic disorder. Your ECG showing sinus tachycardia is a normal physiological response to stress or anxiety, especially when all cardiac opinions rule out heart disease.
Next Steps
Next Step: You are reacting to fear, not heart disease. The racing heartbeat is caused by your fight or flight response, not a failing heart. What you need is: A psychiatric evaluation for panic disorder and health anxiety. Gradual tapering of Betacap under supervision, if it worsens panic. Introduction of low-dose anti-anxiety treatment (e.g., SSRIs like escitalopram) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).
Health Tips
Helpful Tips & Word of Caution: Avoid checking BP/HR repeatedly—it reinforces anxiety. Stop reading or googling health issues—this increases fear. Practice deep breathing, grounding techniques, and progressive muscle relaxation. Remember: sinus tachycardia in an anxious person is not dangerous. Hello, Thank you for sharing your concern- your symptoms and distress are very valid. From what you've described, you seem to be experiencing health anxiety (hypochondriasis) with panic disorder, which is leading to repeated focus on heart rate and blood pressure. Sinus tachycardia (a fast but regular heartbeat) in response to standing, walking, or social interactions can occur in anxiety and is not dangerous if ECG and cardiac workups are otherwise normal. It's not life-threatening and does not cause early death. Information on the internet without context can be very misleading- please be cautious. Propranolol (Betacap) may not suit everyone and can worsen anxiety in some individuals by reducing physical energy or causing fatigue. The benefit you get from clonazepam (Petril) suggests the anxiety component is significant.
Next Steps
a. Consult a psychiatrist for formal evaluation and treatment- CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is very effective for health anxiety. b. Consider SSRIs (like escitalopram or sertraline) under psychiatric guidance for long-term anxiety relief. These reduce panic attacks and obsessive health fears. c. Reduce frequent checking of pulse and BP- it reinforces the anxiety loop. d. Learn and practice relaxation techniques (deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, mindfulness).
Health Tips
1. Avoid online self-diagnosis and fear-based content. 2. Maintain a sleep routine, reduce caffeine, and stay physically active unless contraindicated. 3. Do not increase or self-adjust doses of medications like clonazepam.

Do not bother too much. At first you should build trust on a doctor. Do not waste time in changing doctor. You should consult a psychiatrist with your medical records with medication, investigations and keep a follow up with your doctor and make a diary*( note pad ) of your anxiety episodes, frequency, duration, so that you can discuss and show it with your doctor. So can keep in touch with a doctor on whom you can rely, with proper medication you will be fine, it's not a big problem

All those changes in heart rate and BP that you have mentioned are normal variations that you get when you feel anxious or stressed. But whatever medications you are using are only for short term relief. You might be having anxiety disorder which could explain your health anxiety and panic attacks and it needs proper evaluation and management with medications (like SSRIs) and therapy.
Next Steps
Consult me online at Apollo247 app or any other psychiatrist for further assessment and discussing management options.
Health Tips
Do not use petril excessively as they have habit forming potential.
